Who, me?

It's true. As of about 2 weeks ago, Daniel James Callister is a certified Utah Hunter Education Instructor. It took a few weeks of classes and a shooting and written test. Nobody bothered to ask if I've ever hunted, so I didn't bother to tell them.

I'm in a class this semester called "Living with Wildlife" and one of the requirements in the course is to take hunters education. There is also a service learning project later in the course. The instructor said that if anyone was interested we could go the extra mile and become certified as hunter ed instructors. If we did this we wouldn't have to worry about the service learning project. I thought, what the heck.

The shooting range pictures from our last post were actually just before my shooting test. I wanted to practice a little before the big day and was able to talk Angie into coming along.

Wow....

This could be one of the proudest moments of a brother's life. I took hunter's safety when I was 12 with Trent Johnson. The instructor was the long lost brother of Jim Serassio... need I say more? Anyway, you'll be a much cooler instructor... talk about a resume builder! Good for you. Perhaps NOT hunting is the greatest personal Hunters Safety tip you can recommend to your students. Its hard to argue with your Hunting Incident statistics...

I was waiting for the punch line- ya know- why you would put in all that time and effort. then it came- it saved you from doing a different kind of work. I milked those opportunities in my day too. Looks like you are building up quite a resume to hep out in the scouting program ( derid is in scouts so that is where my mind goes) I can hear it now, " oh, I heard that good old brother callister is an actual certified hunting instructor- lets have him come teach the boys a thing or two..." My goal is to remain basically useless so that I am never on high demand- especially when it comes to working with adolescent boys- bless their hearts.

ok, maybe the saddest thing of all is that i am almost 33 and i have never taken hunters saftey!! i don't have my 'blue card'. it has always been a little weird for me when friends invite me to go hunting, i usually just tell them it is a bad weekend for me, to avoid the embarrasing statement that i am not what soo many 12 year olds are, certified to hunt... now maybe my brother can teach me the class and get me certified... it will finally end an ugly and long chapter in my life. way to go Dan, look forward to a shooting trip/class...

by the way, you certainly look like a hunter's saftey instructor!! nice beard...it was a sad day when i shaved mine off...ahh....but Deena wanted the first impression of me to Abigail not be a hairy mountain man...opportunity wasted...ah well.

The funny thing about this post is that while reading it, all I can think of is that you now look like a REAL Clutch fan.
